Double Majoring at Pace University

Hey Guys,

I had a quick question regarding double majoring. Currently I am a sophomore at Pace University with a Major in Finance and minor in Economics. I'm currently looking in to double majoring in both of those topics since I enjoy economics a whole lot. I was just wondering if you guys thought it would be beneficial because as another finance major trying to go in to Investment Banking one day, this could be my edge over the competition. I will also go towards my MBA later on in life, so I see this being kind of an advantage when I apply for graduate school.

I have spoken to others who urge me to double major in accounting and Finance, but since I hate accounting I feel I could never do it. I just feel like if I was applying for an analyst position and I had a degree from both majors and Passed my CFA level 1. It would possibly increase my odds of landing a job. Even though it would take another year, it might work out later on. Curious to see what you guys think and If I should double major in something other then econ.

Best,

Josh P.

I recommend pursuing a quant major such as engineering or math alongside finance. Regrettably, I majored in economics... believe it can be learned on your own as a hobby. You'll be more competitive with technical skills.

Accounting is the easiest way to get into finance. I know quite a few CPA eligible Baruch grads (very similar school to Pace) who received quite decent offers. Of course the work is tedious and they don't have too much financial upside at those positions but it is a good stepping stone into consulting, etc, But yea, for a non-target candidate you can get a decent amount of $ for a entry level, non-banking position.

If I recall correctly you may not be able to begin your CFA until your senior year.
