EC's that have an impact for a uni application
Hey Guys!
I'm a 9th grader from quebec who's always been quite interested in Investment Banking and Finance .
I'm looking to get into Ivey , McGill desautels or UT austin as an Intl student (ik about the sat)
I want to know what ec's or activities have a significant impact on an application .
Btw we don't rlly have clubs and all that in high school (ends in 11th grade over here) , so i'm kinda thinking on what i should do .
the only thing that's actually valuable for me rn is that I've been playing violin for quite some time now and i'm in level 6 in rcm ...
Pls advise..
.
Any particular reason you want to go to UT Austin? If you're from Quebec, how are you international for Ivey and McGill? Given that you're in 9th grade, have you taken any mock SATs (how have you done)?
No , it's just that I want to settle in the U.S(Preferably)
Bro answer my other questions and I can help you.
what other questions? Sry i don't understand :(
If you're from Quebec, how are you international for Ivey and McGill? Given that you're in 9th grade, have you taken any mock SATs (how have you done)?
not intl for ivey or mcgill , just ut austin. I've been practicing from a few books / khan academy
Great. Let me rephrase "have you taken any mock SATs (how have you done)?"... Have you sat down and taken an online or printed out version of the SAT to practice and see where you stand? If so, what did you get on it?
Another question, UT is a very random school. Why are you targeting UT specifically?
I have not taken any mock SATs yet . I'm not ready as yet because it's my second week. Also , I heard UT austin was very good for ib so yeah..
You seem lost. Get a 95% + average, join clubs that put you in leadership roles like deca, practice like a madman for the Sat and Act exams and figure out regions that you would feel comfortable spending 4 years in based on weather, diversity, religion and any other factors that are important to you. Make a plan to visit a couple of universities in a weekend trip so you can gain a better understanding of the ins and outs of the potential place you would live in.
Do not blindly follow the herd mentality and choose a school because it has good placement. Ut is a great school but the culture is very different to Quebec and can be a big culture shock. If you thrive in a smaller community and prefer the east coast weather then choose a liberal arts school like Williams or if you prefer to explore the west coast and be surrounded by the tech scene choose Ucla.
Whatever you do, have an open mind and just do well in school. Stick to the basics and you will be fine.
You are better off majoring in cs at Waterloo. Not joking
Or even the accounting and finance co op course at Wloo they get some insane placements and you get like 4-5 internships
How have you "always" been interested in investment banking? You mean to tell me that you not only knew what banking was but was interested IN FUCKING MIDDLE SCHOOL?! WallStreetOasis.com AndyLouis we gotta start putting age limits on this site lol
Idk why this is weird . I have a kid in my grade who just got wso and he's rlly into private equity..
I say this in the most sincere way possible: delete the app and never come to this website again until at least your freshman year of college. You claim that it's not weird because you know someone else like this? I can assure you that you are literally in the .01% minority of high school freshmen who know what WSO is, or even banking in general for that matter (unless their dad is an MD or something). Please enjoy life for the next 8 years because trust me once it's over you will not get that free time back
Bruhhhhhhhhh
Just focus on your grades.
Find something you’re good at and excel at it. The people who I know who got into top colleges all had this special trait that said person really excelled at “think national/international awards”
Sports and leadership in school clubs helps as well.
That said , PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO OPTIMIZE your hs E.C.S for college admissions thinking that a certain org is better than the others.
I really regret not joining certain clubs in hs because I thought it would be “useless” on the resume. Now I realize those are lost experiences that I can never get back.
How long before we have middle schoolers posting on WSO?
