Epic vs. Ikon
For all the NYC-based powder hounds or park rats at heart, what is your go-to pass for the winter season, Epic or Ikon?
Personally, I’m trying to optimize for frequently using my protected Saturdays at a nearby mountain, hopefully 2-3 weekend trips deeper into the Northeast (VT?), and at least 1 trip out West to ride big mountain pow.
I am an “expert” big mountain skier and an eager, beginner park rat, for context, and the passes will both be about $600-700 for me (I have some discounts). I’m new to the Northeast, so I’m not sure which direction to go on this question. Thank you!
I just picked up a 4-day Ikon pass to use next year for a trip out West. Really just comes down to what mountains you are going to visit. Once you figure that out then just pick up whatever pass goes with it. Don’t do it the other way around, seems silly especially when the prices are comparable.
Pick whichever one has the mountains you are most realistically going to visit. Sorry I can't be more insightful but its really not a complicated decision. I think Epic has more PA/VT/NH mountains within driving distance of NYC but IKON has a few great options too. You already missed the early season discount window (mid-october) so you have a little more time now to actually plan a trip and buy a pass based on that without rushing into it.
Realistically speaking as a banking Analyst, you're just going to be going to Hunter all season, so go with Epic.
This is realistic and helpful, thank you for the input
I can't help but laugh at these types of posts where guys who spend all day at a desk in NYC are calling themselves expert level skiers.. Unless you grew up skiing you are not an expert skier if you are living in NYC. The experts are the guys living in Jackson Hole and getting 100 days on the mountain this year.
Lol bro we were talking about Jackson yesterday. Got over 100 days in during my last year of school (last year)
These guys only ski once every 10 years and they are experts like the guys in those 80s movies...
Ahh shit it is you. My bad on that one.
Haha no worries dude I can definitely relate
Ikon all the way for me, but skiing is a PITA from NYC. Even Southern Vermont is 4hrs minimum one-way and then slopes are tiny south of VT (Hunter, etc). I try and get out to JH annually and can sometimes do a quick SLC trip with Alta/Bird, which makes Ikon worth it for me.
Interesting, what do your quick trips to the Wasatch typically look like, logistically? I have friends there with whom I can crash, but I’m not sure about flights/work etc.
I also am curious where you ride on the Ikon in Northeast, assuming you live in NYC. I am leaning Epic because of Hunter Mtn but I’m not sure.
Teenage VT local here, y’all making me wanna travel down south to talk to NY bankers on the slopes haha….
