Hi everyone!
I would need an actual equity research model built by someone experienced. If anyone for example whises to share a file or some screenshots I would be very happy! I'm currently building a model for my boutique employer, but they are not currently producing any independet research, so I have no collegues/material to rely on.
I have read a lot of books about valuation and bought a modelling book from Amazon, but I can't decide on the level of complexity of the model. Seeing how a "BB" research model for example looks like would allow me to perhaps avoid rookie mistakes. Inventing the wheel over and over again is quite tedious and I can't find online any good "step-by-step" books or practical guides. I know the theory on valuation, not the industry practices.
level of complexity doesn't matter as long as it serves some kind of an analytical purpose.... as in showing something about the business that would not be obvious without the complexity of your model ... depends on what you are looking to see/analyze when valuing the firm, additionally it also depends upon the type of firm you are trying to build the model for ...
if you have the McKinsey book you should be able to go through this easily ... and apply it ... this should be a good step by step process

there is another website a guy over here mentioned ... novo34.com .... not a big fan of that but it should get you started .... macabacus.com is also pretty good
http://www.exinfm.com/free_spreadsheets.html --- check # 77 ... it is more suitable for startups but still you can get the idea of a financial model
http://pages.stern.nyu.edu/~%20adamodar/New_Home_Page/Inv3ed.htm .... decent templates

btw checking ready made templates is not always a good idea since the templates can make you change the way you would approach valuation & also the practices within the industry tend to differ between firms... do not be overly constrained by industry practices ... make sure the projections balance, the valuation method is suitable for the business, the model is easy to follow in terms of sheets' ordering: the assumptions & their basis, the schedules, the projections, the reconstruction of financial statements, the valuation model, the risk quantification .. one should lead to the other
