ESCP Europe MiM vs Bocconi MiM
Hi guys!
I received offers both from Bocconi for the Master in Management (tought in Italian) and from ESCP for the Master in Management (tought in english).
I'm finishing the third year in Bocconi in Business Administration (CLEAM) and I would like to continue my studies in Management but i'm quite undecided on what to do.
I was thinking that the quality of the teaching in Bocconi, without considering rankings, is much better than other universities higher ranked than Bocconi; on the other hand I know that ESCP Europe's MiM is ranked 5th by FT (while Bocconi MiM is not ranked..), is taught in english and maybe could open much more door if i want to work in other countries.
I don't know...as I just said Bocconi's teaching is great, maybe higher than ESCP and much more other universities, but on the other hand ESCP' s MiM is very high ranked (better than Cems and Bocconi International Managemet) and offer the possibility to study in different campuses (Berlin, Paris, London, Turin...) so allows me to have international experience and different uni on my CV, but i'm quiet worried about the quality of its teaching...

First of all, congratulations for receiving these two offers! I can understand quite well the choice you need to make as I just graduated from Bocconi University this summer before starting my Master in Management at ESCP Europe.
Indeed, ESCP Europe is ranked fifth on the FT, courses are in English and the possibility to study in 6 different countries (plus obtaining several national degrees or double degrees from their international partners) is an amazing opportunity to internationalise your profile. But that's not all that ESCP Europe offers. Attending classes of 20 students will enable you to participate actively, exchange in a cross-cultural environment and grasp communication and debating skills. The group projects you will participate to will force you to go beyond your limits and contact in-companies professionals. You will attend four seminars, including one at the European Parliament in Brussels that gives you the chance to discover what really happens at higher levels. Furthermore you will have one or two specialisations to pick among a wide range of different courses. Still, your main concern seems to come from the quality of teaching. Well, professors, coming from various countries, are passionate about their subjects and encourage student participation in order to trigger debates and arouse interest. They dedicate a lot of time to their students and feel concerned about their work and career. As most of them have worked before in the domain they are teaching, you will clearly feel that they are specialised. Using examples such as cases, articles or past experience to illustrate their course, you will rarely get bored while learning at ESCP Europe.

Thank you very much for your availability. You have been very clear. I didn't know that there class of only 20 students! In the presentation of the program in Turin they told me that class were almost of 90. It could be possible that this changes on the base of the campus? Can I ask you in wich campus you are and wich campuses would you reccomend to me?

I am on the Paris campus this year, and I had the interview on the Turin campus when I applied. Otherwise I haven't had the opportunity to visit the other campuses yet, but I talked with friends that have been on other campuses. Besides recommending the Paris campus I personally would recommend Madrid and London on the basis of what I have heard from other students. But still, all campuses offer different experiences (different specialisations for your M2, different languages according to the campus you will choose, different national degrees if you want to, different cities to discover, etc...) and I think it really depends on your personal interests! For the number of students in the class, in Paris we are always grouped approximately with 20 students, it may vary according to the campuses I guess. However, classes usually changes all the time depending on the course, so on other campuses you can have classes with a large number of students as well as classes with less students, it really depends.
In my opinion, both will help you land the same jobs. The brand names are roughly equivalent and the programs as well. Future opportunities as well. Since you are Italian and graduated from Bocconi already, going to ESCP would make your profile more diverse as compared to other Italians at Bocconi and would signal your willingness to undertake an international career, and shows that you can easily get out of your comfort zone.
So basically: both top tier schools and equivalent programs. As an Italian, going to ESCP might be seen as slightly better. For non-Italian students, the decision in this case has to made solely (again, imho) based on other and more subjective factors such as how you are attracted by the location or the language spoken as the same doors will be open after graduation.

Both the schools are great with excellent MiM programs.
If the only reason you're leaning towards Bocconi over ESCP is because of the teaching quality, then you should really reconsider. I’m a recent ESCP graduate myself and I can say with confidence that the teaching quality at ESCP is at par. ESCP is one of the best schools for MiM globally and is ranked 5th by FT for a reason. Rest assured that you will receive top-notch quality teaching at ESCP too.
Perhaps you should ask yourself this question as it might help you reach a conclusion. Few years down the line where do you see yourself making your career? If you see yourself establishing your career and life primarily in Italy itself, it might be a better idea to stay in Bocconi. However, with ESCP you get more international exposure and should take precedence if you’re aiming for a more international profile and diversified career options. Therefore, choosing ESCP will give your resume an added advantage in the future due to the international exposure.
Once you’ve decided that, the choice between the two schools will be pretty clear to you.
