finally got a job

After beginning the application process in the first week of September, I finally got an offer at a reputable boutique in NYC a month and two weeks after it all started. I applied to around 40-50 investment banks through a combination of campus recruiting, online resume drops, and alumni networking, ended up with 11 first-round interviews, 3 superdays, and one offer. My stress level has never been higher than it has been, especially within the last 2 weeks, as I was not confident that ANY of my interviews would ultimately end up with offers, and I had no Plan B to investment banking. This business is brutally difficult to break into, even coming from a top 25 university with a prior investment banking summer internship, and there is a great deal of luck involved. Thanks to all users on this forum, I've used this forum plenty of times to do some informal research on banks I was interviewing with, and it has been more or less informative and/or entertaining at all times.

Gongratulations man! Hard work and persistence pays off. Pay it forward an give advice to other monkeys on this forum that need it, as you have been in their shoes before and could provide valuable insights.

Congrats man! Time to change that status icon from green to blue then. And +1 on what eyelikecheese said, the community would love it if you could help them out from time to time.

Still only a prospective analyst for the time being...

^^ we need to have a revolution on these boards. A solid group of men, or women, that help people. There are a few, but a lot more others tht trash and degrade. This site has way more potential than what's it's doing, in regards to forum advice that is

Congrats on a great success story!

I think we ALL agree with "eyelikecheese" and believe that WSO is a great forum, except for mindless trolls that use the forum to their own selfish and vindictive needs (jimbojones / UBS, for example and many others). There should be a MAJOR effort by Patrick and the moderators to STOP those that troll to either hurt or shamelessly promote certain firms.

I do not know if WSO just likes the pageviews or likes making people irate or likes simply to provide a forum for little bastards to rant about things that hurt the integrity of WSO, but I can tell you that many users have left or no longer use the site due to the negative or self promotional chatter on the site.

This type of behavior only KILLS the integrity of the site. Young budding professionals don't know what to believe and likely get very hurt by the negativity on WSO.

Patrick, you should make it very clear that you are going to clean up the site, clean up its act and strongly discourage and police bad behavior. I do not believe monkey shit will work, as no one has any to throw around and monkey shitting still leaves these posts up on the site and poison it.

Please take some action to save the site.

Yea Patrick, "save" the site that just had, arguably, the biggest week for positive PR that any business could hope for. Get over it man, people are always going to be obnoxious. Just look past it and move on.

Smart people would agree that constant innovation and improvement is necessary in any business. May take some time but can't hurt to try. HappyPants, can't argue with that. GM had great publicity too and is still in business, but because they ignored the thoughts of their audience, they are practically bankrupt (actually bankrupt) and almost extinct. So, here's to constant improvement!

Congrats to parahx, just pay it forward may. Help other people like they helped you.

Congrats parahx! I'm from a non-target and I just received an offer at a BB today myself, and can agree that the process was intense. I am also thankful to all the posters on this forum for the advice and commentary. I've learned so much already, yet I know it's just the beginning. I'm going to get drunk tonight and enjoy the moment!

Best to everyone! -rufio

Everyone,

Kinda like the old radio saying, first time poster, but long time creeper of the forums. I too received my first offer today. The relief is amazing! Anytime I can add my constructive input, I will try to help others on the forum. Best of luck to everyone!

TheHungryOneI'm curious to know of the 11 interviews that you got, how many of them were from online resume drops?

Congrats!

about 2-3 of them were. I got one through a referral from my previous internship, about 7 through resume drops through my school's career center, and one by contacting a recent alum. online resume drops through my school's career center definitely got me the most interviews, but unfortunately I didn't advance past first rounds for any of them... I ended up getting my offer by e-mailing an alumni who had graduated 2 years ago requesting to just talk for a few minutes. That phone call ended up being an interview with the alum and another analyst and I was invited to their superday shortly thereafter. so basically my career services center did nothing for me haha
