First Car for 1st Year IB

Hey WSO,

So I am moving away from home and I have been looking into getting a car (west coast requirement). I've basically narrowed it down slightly to the following cars:

Honda Civic EX-T
Volkswagen Jetta 1.4 TSI Wolfsburg
Nissan Sentra SV
Toyota Corrolla S Upgrade Package CVT

**keep in mind this will only be my car for like two years until I can afford the dream car.

Thanks for your input!

Agreed. Not sure about your location but in Canada you can find 5-6yo 328s for $10-13K. Even from a cost perspective, you're still coming out on top compared to the cars you've listed (assuming you're looking at new cars). Sure you might be using premium fuel (91 grade) but the marginal difference in fuel costs are likely to be less than $500-1K/year unless you plan on driving a huge amount. There is also the larger dip in resell value you'll experience if you buy a new car...

IMO, used bmw > new civic/corolla/"practical cars"

Honestly, if you are living in southern california, I'd get a motorcyle. It is a lot cheaper to buy, cheaper gas, and it is one of a few places in the US where you can ride it year round.
