Fordham or UCSB?
I'm a sophomore at UCSB looking to work in finance. Don't really like the school so I applied for spring transfer. So far I've only heard from Fordham. Still waiting for NYU and BU. NYU looks slim, since they would usually release most decisions so far. Now, I'm debating between Fordham and UCSB. I mean I'd love to be in NYC but what troubles me is the ranking. UCSB is top 30 and Fordham is only a top 60. All my friends and families treat ranking as sacred, so that kind of affects my decision. so just wanna know when it comes to finance-related job, should I choose Fordham or stay at UCSB?
Even though Fordham placement has been improving I wouldn’t take it over UCSB. Tuition at Fordham will be insane and you can work in IB in SF and probably have a good shot at NYC as well if u stay at UCSB.
It’ll come down to how HARD you network. At the end of the day (and this is coming from a non-target) it’ll be up to who’s willing to bat for you when the time comes. Relationships are more important than school rank or locality. Will your life be easier at a school like NYU, yes ofc given their reputation and opportunities and NYC locality but you will still have to work ur ass off to get offers!
Do what’s most cost effective is what my advice would be. Undergrad degrees are legit useless and I have learned more from finance clubs than actual finance fuckin classes!
Thank you so much!! This is really helpful. Money is not really an issue here. I pay out of state tuition at UCSB and Fordham has offered me 20k a year, so on paper Fordham tuition is lower than UCSB. OFC you have to factor in living costs, but I still think Fordham would cost roughly the same as UCSB. TBH, I'm leaning toward Fordham, because I'm more into city life. I've lived in NYC for a couple of months before, love it there, and I just feel I'm more motivated in the city environment.
If ranking is important to you then you know you should stay. However, UCSB, Fordham, and BU are all non targets. I’d say transfer to NYU is worth it though.
True. But do u think that a degree from UCSB would mean higher chances of landing a finance job in the east coast than a degree from Fordham or BU?
No I think Fordham and BU have UCSB beat for east cost recruiting. UCSB is a non target so it’s going to be way harder to recruit across the country.
BU is non target af
NYU is worth it over UCSB. Fordham is not. BU? What are you smoking?
That said, you might need to consider self-improvement if you're unable to enjoy UCSB. It's Lalaland over there.
Much appreciated. Southern Cali is just not my vibe, but I'll give it another try since it looks like staying at UCSB is my best option so far.
