Freshman Summer Internship Opportunity PWM vs Search Fund Internship for getting into IB

Hi Everybody,

I'm currently a Freshman at a flagship state school (Think UMich, UVA) working for a search fund. My boss told me that I need to decide now whether to stay with him for the summer or whether I"ll be interning at a different place (most likely a BB PWM role) this summer. I've had a good experience so far working with some LBO models and leading client calls. My boss told me if I do a good job for the summer, he'll write me a nice reference letter. My end goal right now is to work for a BB M&A division out of undergrad, but I'm not sure whether I should go after a big name on my resume for the summer or stick with this job.

He told me I had to decide soon between a full-time role with his search fund for the summer (unpaid) or pursuing something else. I do have some informational interviews lined up with a few BBs but I'm not sure whether I should continue pursuing them for an internship role.

Does anybody know if it's possible to balance a PWM internship "after hours" or on the side on top of a regular 8-5? Is it worth putting in all those hours without getting any pay? Does PE experience help with IB interviews?

I'd really appreciate any advice/perspective that you all might have on what to pursue for the summer.

(inb4 i'm a gunner i should chill and enjoy summer bang some chicks etc. Ik I'll try to enjoy my youth before i'm pushing 40 and regret it.)

Thanks again!!!

do you have a PWM internship? If not, there is nothing to join. Also, you want your resume to say June-Aug since that is the standard time everyone sees for interns.

Good point. I'll be interviewing for a fixed income risk analytics internship as well, wondering if that's any good for IB. Heard mixed consensus for whether its MO or FO. Any input on that?
