From student sleeping hours to working man sleeping hours
Hi guys,
As a student, we all know, you can usually sleep as much as you want whenever you want. Waking up at noon is more rule than exception. Now I was wondering how long it took most of you guys to switch to early mornings (6/7am) and short 5-6h nights? Did it take long to get used to?
Just start practicing. I'm a procrastinator who'll end up getting under 20 hrs of sleep on midterm and finals weeks. Other times I just don't feel like sleeping and mess around until dawn and barely catch two hours of sleep and feel like shit when I have to wake up for class. Make sure you don't desensitize yourself to caffiene (become too tolerant) because you'll need to save it for those special days.
Was in the same boat as you. What worked for me was making sure you don't drink more than 1 or 2 at night, it disrupts your sleep. Also when I started doing more cardio in my workouts that helped too. Stuff like swimming and circuit training is what worked for me. To answer your question directly, it takes some time getting used to but the above behaviors helped me get more out of less sleep so that eased the pain.
Just get to sleep earlier if you need more sleep.
To get used to early mornings, set an alarm and get up slightly earlier everyday.
Honestly, there's no magic trick here. What you'd think you need to do is exactly that
When you get your first big boy job you will want to sleep early. Trust me.
the worst is now i cant wake up and say im not going to work but in school it was so easy to convince my self to ditch

Getting Back to the Normal Sleep-Cycle (Originally Posted: 07/24/2010)
So after a post-college summer of moping around, I find I sleep at 0400, wake up at 1200 if lucky. Obviously this would get me totally screwed when my FT gig starts in fall.
Any advice on getting back to the regular sleep cycle?
My thinking at this point is that if I undersleep for a few days (i.e. force myself awake at 0600 a couple times), nature takes care of the rest.
Also, does this actually work?

Wait until you have kids. I haven't had an uninterrupted nights sleep in my own bed in years.
Pull an all nighter and sleep early the next day. Your sleep pattern will automatically fall into place.
Do this, but take Melatonin before that post-all-nighter sleep. It will reset your sleep-wake cycle.
Force yourself to get out of bed early and go to sleep earlier. If you have trouble getting to sleep take the advice above and make sure you wake early.
That's perfect for your full-time gig.

Start drinking every night so the alcohol can help you go to sleep. You'll go from 4am to 2am to 12am in a week if you do it right. Worked for me earlier this year and it's a lot more fun than all the other suggestions.
