So you basically are the support function for the IB team. You do all the data entry / business development initiatives / potential client meeting materials preparation / taking calls with potential clients and new opportunities. Most interesting in this role is that you will be doing all of the pitches for the bank. IBers at FT don't do any pitching for the most part. If there is some administrative work that IBers can't do, you all will do it for them.

I recommend talking to someone who is currently working there to get a better scoop. Main attraction they love boasting about is that if you do two years as a Research analyst, you will be promoted to a 2nd year analyst in IB and then the next year become an Associate.

What are your goals in terms of long-term? Are you wanting to go into IB? Then apply as an IB analyst. Many research analysts don't appreciate the IB type hours for the $70k-ish pay only at times. They usually leave for IB at another place ironically.

The work is pretty templatized though in terms of pitching so not too bad intellectually when push comes to shove. To that extent, my friend told me about this one girl currently there who relies on the templates so much that she doesn't even know what GP is. She just knows it's the line under Rev usually.
