I heard that rates trading was really profitable. SEFs have cut into how much people made on vanilla interest rate swaps, but the more complex / difficult to price rates derivatives are likely still very profitable.
Which interest rate derivatives are you talking about, would a Swaptions or more like pricing index amortising swaps?
Swaptions, Bermudian Options (used for callable bonds), and Range Accruals (used in structured notes).
Thank you, that’s really interesting to know. Would these trading desks require a very quantitative background or are they still heavy on macro? Also are these profitable areas at hedge funds as well?
