Georgetown Econ (College) vs Georgetown Finance (MSB)
Hello. I am a high school senior who has been recently admitted to Georgetown. I got into the normal College and plan to major in Econ if I end up choosing Georgetown. However, recently I have been wondering if I should transfer to MSB and major in finance. Is it much easier to get an IB or consulting job coming out of MSB vs Econ? Is the placement or recruiting that much different between schools? Thanks
If you’re genuinely wondering about different pathways between the college, SFS, and MSB, pm me. That being said, I know people from every school who have broken into IB/Consulting/Tech without issue, so I would broadly suggest simply staying with whatever program you happen to find more enjoyable and enriching.
thoughts on the MSF from Georgetown?
Per my understanding, placement is good and I can testify that there are strong relationships that exist and are being built up further with PE and VC firms in the area. Can't shed too much light though-there is very little overlap socially or career-event wise between undergraduate and graduate students.

The key to winning IBD in Georgetown is to be involved with the business clubs and organizations like their student bank, student fund, etc. They'll teach you to ropes on finance basics, get you to rub shoulders with the right people, and display your interest in finance via extracurricular involvement. If you kill your extracurriculars and tell a good story, you have a good shot at IBD regardless of your major.
As a person who chose MSB Finance, my argument for MSB is that the business school does provide you support, resources, and help to navigate the recruiting landscape. It's easier to stay in the know about info sessions, competitions coming up, and under-the-radar job apps in MSB and the sense of togetherness when everyone is going for recruiting at the same time kind of helps with the stress.
I minored in Econ and while the professors in Georgetown econ are top notch, the classes are really hard which can risk your GPA. A common complaint about professors in econ is that they're so in the weeds on their instruction that they don't ever take a step back to make sure the students are properly following the complexity.
I came in as a 2nd year transfer though so my decision with MSB Finance was because I needed to get up to speed on the Georgetown ecosystem quickly and immerse myself ASAP.
Any advice on how to get into clubs at Gtown? I feel like they're all so competitive and as a freshman with no experience, it doesn't seem like I'd get in. Do they ask super technical questions during their interview, or is it more behavioral? What experience are they looking for in the resume and what questions do they ask on the app? Thinking specifically about the federal credit union, student investment fund, hilltop consultants, georgetown global consulting, innovo etc.

No IVY then No IB >:(
As a Finance student at the MSB, it's tough to transfer but if you can definitely do it. You'll quickly see that MSB resources are incredibly massive which lends to some more opportunities. Can't go wrong either way though. Also, if you look at our first-destination report you can see the exact numbers of who's getting into which firms and what major they took. Here's a link to that: https://careercenter.georgetown.edu/about-us/senior-survey-outcomes/ PM me if you still have some questions.
