Getting to REPE from IB

There are probably other posts like this at some point in time but in a nutshell, I'm interested in transitioning to REPE from investment banking. I'm currently doing mergers and acquisitions at a middle market bank coming from a target school, but was wondering how feasible it would be for someone with my background to get to associate position at a solid RE shop. I've done a lot of reading online as well as books on RE investing and I'm comfortable with LBOs although I may need to look into more RE-focused models

Anyone have any insights or advice on how to best break in? My plan is to become more familiar with the modeling and to reach out to try and have a few conversations with some guys in the industry

Additionally, any insights on the upward mobility potential for REPE? Is it 2 years and out generally for most shops -> need MBA to move up again?

Also, I heard its tough to keep moving up in real estate? Harder to make it to partner than at a traditional PE shop due to fewer positions/availabilities? So then people have to either wait it out or often get pushed out and have to do their own thing?
