Going to the hood

What's it like for you when you go to the hood? Are you shocked? Scared? Excited? Emotional? I ask, because I was thinking about that Dave Chappelle joke when he's like, "you got to warn someone before you take them to the hood" and I know how true this really is for me. It's not that I'm scared, but I usually prepare. Get my mind right. Make sure I understand that it's a specific environment you can't just treat like any neighborhood.

To give you a legit answer, I grew up not too far from the ‘hood’ only a few blocks actually. I’m from Philly, grew up near Kensington, a very shitty area, nicknamed the Badlands. I don’t really prepare in anyway, just keep to myself. Try not to bump into any of the druggies, the crazy homeless people, occasional thug/dealer. A handful of kids from my high school ended up there doing various illegal activities. It’s sad what happened to the area after the manufacturing industry moved out of the city, it began to decay and it’s been getting worse as the decades have gone by.

Really?

I picked up my ex a few times from a place on 183rd and Crotona tin the Bx. in a little 90s Miata with the top down blasting Journey and whatnot the whole way. (Long story, regular sign-ins there were required to keep much needed health insurance, even though we lived together)  From the corner to the building it's a 99 cent store, a check cashing place, an off-brand cell phone store, a liquor store and a Chinese joint.

If you go during the daytime, you're not flashing easily stealable wealth, and you mind your own business you'll be fine.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.
