Goldman Sachs SSG, Investment Partners, Risk Arb, etc.
How tough is it to break into these desks at Goldman after 2 years as an IB analyst in a top firm (NOT at GS)? Is it comparable with a similar recruiting process to Angelo Gordon, silver point, KKR, tpg, etc.?
Um... Im no expert but from my understanding GS SSG is about as competitive as any of the elite HFs. The 2 people I knew that worked there when to/came from the likes of a Soros/PTJ/Avenue.
What about if you summered at GS, took GS IBD FT, and then wanted to roll over to SSG?
^ I think you'd probably have a SLIGHT advantage over outsiders, but is still super competitive.
On another note, the unit has been publicized recently as some of the new regs could hamper its ability to continue. GS has looked for ways around it, so we'll see what happens.
thanks, anyone know if they use headhunters or just pretty much pull from GS IBD?
head hunters oxbridge
You'd have a higher chance moving from S&T. GS SSG is under securities, and while nowadays the prop desks recruit separately (Securities Investing), I heard in the days past they picked kids from S&T intern classes. /end rumour
I know a guy who works in GS SSG and he is an absolute boss. It's definitely ultra-competitive, and he is one of the sharpest guys I know... He is a CFA...
.
it's quite difficult to break in full-time straight from undergrad...
SSG will on occasion interview the top summers in IBD and put them through a really rigorous interview process. If all goes well, it's possible that the GS IBD intern gets an offer to join their old team in IBD or SSG.
