Headhunters who have closed deals
Hi all, I am curious to know if anyone has actually successfully worked with a headhunter to get them a job in IB? Like has anyone actually gone on an interview through Pinpoint, Water Street, Selby Jennings or the like (even I guess WSO for that matter since I think this website now has an active job board) for a role in IBD that ultimately led to an offer and a subsequent fee for the headhunter? Any guidance / personal experience may be helpful for me and potentially others here.
Yes, I have gotten jobs through both Selby Jennings and Pinpoint. My only piece of advice is to take everything they say with a grain of salt. They will aggressively push you to accept the first offer you receive regardless of if it's the right move for you.
Ah thank you for this color. Can you provide more specifics and how it worked with them and/or which banks they were able to help you get jobs with? I’m happy to work with them to find a job just have not been successful to date. They definitely have gotten me plenty of interviews over the years thankfully just haven’t been able to close one. One was a top MM and the other was a mid-BB. If they are already getting you interviews you are using them to their full potential. They aren't much help past the initial interview stage.
They mostly run searches for small firms.
They have a lot of BB and EB jobs too.

Wow. Thought they were just a data mining firm..
I got many offers but didn’t end up taking them. I think the problem is that they aggressively want to close, they keep spewing bullshit and there is no way to know if it is actually true. I would always have a contact with the firm and take it with them directly

I've gotten an offer through Selby Jennings for a reputable MM firm (William Blair, Baird, Lincoln Intl, etc). Definitely hit and miss with the quality of folks there - I've spoke to one guy who completely ghosted me after discussing a role and sending him my resume. Also got a few PE interviews through a different person there, although they were mostly smaller firms outside of NY/SF/LA.
