Hedge Fund Internship vs. Full-Time Equity Research

Ok, so I have a full time offer from a investment research company or a short-term internship at a hedge fund (with no definite full-time afterwards).

If my ultimate aim is to get into a HF, which one should I take? Would it be easier to to jump when doing a short-term internship with low pay, or a proper full-time at a research firm for a year and than make a jump?

No expert, but definitely take the internship at HF if your ultimate goal is HF. You will achieve the following by doing so:

  1. Learn if HF is really what you want (maybe most important)
  2. Show all future employers your interest in the industry
  3. Make connections and figure out what skills to potentially work on

Pay should not be a consideration at all. See it as school and try to learn as much as you can. If you get a great position down the line it will be irrelevant.
