Hedge fund salaries

Hi guys! CS undergrad here, seeking employment next year. Got internship return offer at FAANG. Two options : tech( as software engineer), or CS PhD ( for getting into a hedgefund). Want to know  more about  salaries , working hours and career length( forced retirement/lay off at 40+?) in hedgefunds from  hedgefund employees.

Q1: is it true that quant career has a short life span, and that it's up or out in the industry?

Q2: is it true that PhDs earn more than 400k+ upon entering the business?

Q3:Which one is better in terms of wlb, tech or hedgefunds?

Q4: is it true that, unlike companies like facebook where you get promoted quickly, most people get stuck at junior levels?
