BB Corp Banking Vs. Boutique IBD

First Offer: BB Corporate Banking (Citi, JPM, BOA), not sure what industry group yet, housed with IB, exits I've seen are MBB(MCK, Bain), BB/EB IB(MS,GS,EVR,Moelis), even some PE------analysts come from wide variety of schools(nontarget/semitarget)----100k base, 10k signing, 30-50% YE Bonus

Second Offer: Boutique Investment Banking (RX/M&A focused) - places top 30 on league tables for restructuring, 30-50 people firm, heard bad/mixed things about culture, analysts come from targets(Yale,Princeton,Wharton) mostly, Exits are mostly into PE/VC - (the thing is I know nothing about PE so idk if these PE firms are good or bad... I'm thinking maybe if I Go BB Corp banking I can exit into BB IB and then get into a great PE firm if that's what I want to do)----pay below street, offer letter coming soon with exact comp... can update with details on comp soon if needed

-Both for full time and in New York

-Goal is to have the job that leads to better overall learning experience in finance and overall exit opps (Top MBA, MBB, PE/VC, BB IB, Corp Dev/Strat),

Personally think you’ll get much better looks from the boutique. Maybe I’m biased bc I’m in rx but I think you’ll learn much more than in corporate banking. I also think you’ll get better looks for almost anything after having done actual generalist IB rather than corp banking.

I also think starting a career as a generalist across rx/m&a is the way to go and will lead to a lot of optionality. Those shops you mentioned are good shops with good pay, lots of learning and access to senior bankers, and good exits.

well it depends on your goal for example i would take the corp banking bb role since i dont really care about exit opps and i want to stay in a career for the long run

No way a VP in IB is telling CB prospects they get the same training as IB. Didn't realize CB bankers were doing M&A modeling/deals. You must be a VP in CB.

Nonetheless, I'd recommend BB CB in this case because this sounds like a no-name boutique, but dispel the bs that it is "easier" to switch to coverage/M&A. You'd be competing with actual MM and boutique IB bankers who can add value from day 1 as they've actually done REAL IB.
