Here is what u need to get in- actual resume book
DO NOT listen to these fucks. Teaching in China is a huge +. I looked at my old resume book for another post, and many people with interesting backgrounds got picked for my bank. I can't tell you the bank, as i use my real name here, but it is a top bulge. I am fucking SICK of people who have no idea what they are talking about, telling people what is good or not good. Shut the fuck up. IB the most hyped profession there is. Everybody who has no idea what they are talking about come on sites like this and spew their bullshit.
This is an offcial resume book from last year full time. I obviously can't post it, but I can summarize some key points and some recessive points.
Here:
GPAs: 75% between 3.3-3.5
Roughly 10% 3.0-3.29
Roughly 10% 3.51-3.8
No diversity in terms of school:
Ivys: Yale,Harv,Prin,Corn,Colum,Penn,Dart,Brow
Top: Stan,MIT,Berk,William Thats IT, those are all the schools
Ecs: writer for this newspaper... (bullshit)
Some people had some good stuff which made them stand out: EX. army reserve(former), former marine, former english teacher in Africa
When they recruit at these school, they know the people are smart, and they know they can do the job. One thing is physical. Many of the people are socially proficient. They are fairly good looking and they know how to hold there own in a convo.
O, i did foget majors. They were all over the board. Some eng., liberal arts, some wharton -just all over
do you think mich and uva are held equal to berk by ibanks?
no, but close. if i were you i would shoot for the 3.7 range. now this may be, in your mind, and mine as well, gratuitious, but some school are held to a higher standard than others. it is just the way it works.
So how important are these "ECs" for getting an interview?
I ask b/c I really hate that stuff and I don't really have time b/c I'm trying to get top grades this semester...I also have a finance internship under my belt...
so everyone has access to your resume once you start employment?
yes, banks post/ have resume books, where everbody sees everybody else
as far as ecs, they are important so long as you have nothing exceptional. if you have 2 or 3 listings of work experience, then they are not as important. if you dont have that much work , they are important. for the people with exceptional stuff -like ex-military- ecs dont matter.
Dan,
I agree with your point that IB is the most hyped profession in college.
my statistics were for summer interns. Could it be that full-time people have a little bit lower GPAs than interns since the full-time process is not nearly as competitive as the internship process?
from what i have heard from others, it is much more difficult to score a summer internship than it is a full time offer
what were ur stats for summer interns?
Actually taht might explain why some people are saying that you need 3.7+...
It really is supposed to be harder to get a summer spot b/c they don't hire as many
nonononono, thats a big NO. the positions are equally competitive. Those are the numbers, i did SA as well and the numbers were similar. i dont have that book though.
if youre wondering why they seem "low" it is b/c you most likely talk to your peers. peers that hype the profession. maybe it isnt fair, buy you could have a 3.7 and get rejected b/c you are not good looking. on the contrary you could have a 3.0 and get accepted b/c you are good looking/sociable.
one needs more than grades to be IB and looks are a part.
Hell yeah. You need to look GOOD and be at-ease in social situations. Also, you need to be just the "right sort" of person, which is completely annoying and produces an extremely homogenized set of people. There's only one seriously overweight girl in my analyst class. Out of 200 incoming analysts, there are also:
No seriously overweight boys. Only one black girl, one black boy. Only two Hispanics with a non-Caucasian skin tone, both girls. Only two Arabs, both boys.
However, there are lots of (in descending order):
WASPS Japanese Chinese/Taiwanese/Hong Kong/Singapore Indians Asians ex-Japan and China
right, you dont have to be a model, but you gotta look the part in IBD. its the nature of the work. its like sales, you gotta converse. trading is a diff ball game though. traders neednt look anything, so long as they perform.
these days are probably the best chances for students at non-target schools to get an IB offer (basically when economy goes down). I agree with Dan Bush's post, but I would include Virginia and Michigan to be in the top school bracket.
...hey dumbass virginia and michigan aren't in the top school bracket b/c his firm didnt hire anyone there, dumbass
Thanks for posting this.
why would you have a better IB chance in downturns?
Yeah. The list is just comprises of the schools of his firm.
Very interesting indeed, thanks for sharing!
