HF out of banking?

Do most people who recruit for top hedge funds out if banking land hedge funds, or do most have to do PE first. It seems like PE is much more common especially out if BB banking but curious about whether or not this is self-selective or if it’s a necessary step to get into a solid HF and that it’s very difficult to get in straight out of banking?

I moved to a hedge fund straight out of banking. A ton of people go to private equity first because it is more structured of a recruiting process.

Would read this guide on landing a job at a hedge fund. You really need to show you have a passion for investing from your own personal experience or in college. Otherwise, easier to go the PE route and try investing on the side if you started too late.

curious if you went through the process with a headhunter? did you find them coming to you or did you have to reach out proactively?

Definitely not true that you NEED to have had interest in personal investing in college or before, especially depending on the strategy you're interviewing for.
