High school senior wants to do ib
I’m a high school senior who unfortunately didn’t get into a top college. I thought my stats were ok and I’d get into a couple places. The admissions process this year was brutal.
As of right now, my plans are to go to UC San Diego if I get off the waitlist, and if I don’t I’m going to go to community college for 2 years and hopefully transfer to uc Berkeley or ucla. Now, if I do this I’d probably major in an easier major so I get in. If I go to UCLA or Berkeley after 2 years, could I get a job in investment banking?
I was also thinking of transferring to UCLA or Berkeley, and then going to business school for 2 years. Maybe I’d get into a top business school. After I finish, I’d be around 24. Would this be a bad idea? Would going to a top business school make up for my undergrad?
Get a high GPA and network, even when you're at UCSD. If you end up getting into UCLA or UCB then I think that'll help your chances. Just make yourself as competitive as possible throughout college.
Also, you generally need two years of post-undergrad work experience to get into b-school.
You are getting ahead of yourself. Just focus on getting into college right now, then focus on getting good grades, then focus on getting to a bank. There are no rules, it might be harder, but people from random no name targets break into banking all the time. You also could do big 4 and lateral, get an MBA and come in post MBA, there are tons of options.

Happens. The UCs are getting more and more difficult to get into. If you have a choice, choose Berkeley over LA, although you can get into IB from both with dedication. Keep in mind though that you have to transfer after freshman year because recruiting is in your sophomore year.
I go to UCLA myself, it’s definitely not a target school, but breaking into IB is doable if you’re willing to put in lots of effort
Since I can transfer as a junior am I going to miss recruiting? Does recruiting happen in sophomore year or junior year?
Sophomore year 100%. I’m not familiar with the transfer process but someone I met was able to transfer to UCLA as a sophomore, so maybe it’s possible for you as well? If you’re set on IB I would definitely transfer as a freshman if possible.
