History comes to back to haunt Yahoo CEO

The data breach of Yahoo in 2014 has made headlines yet again, but this time for a different reason.

Due to:

“Certain senior executives did not properly comprehend or investigate” the hacks, the independent committee investigating the breach has determined, the company said in a regulatory filing.

And the fact that:

In addition, Yahoo’s legal team, with sufficient info on the hack in hand, “did not sufficiently pursue it,” the committee found.

The board has decided to strip Marissa Mayer (Yahoo's CEO) of her 2016 bonus. Marissa decided to give up an equity award for 2017, and she has expressed the desire that her bonus be redistributed to Yahoo's employees.

Is this Yahoo's way of using Marissa as a scapegoat to finally put this data breach in the past?

Probably keeping her around as to minimize negative news surrounding Yahoo. This so that the acquisition deal by Verizon can progress smoothly.

Could just be because of their stake in Alibaba and Yahoo Japan. They're slowly selling off assets, and the minority interest in Alibaba is likely to be a big news.
