How important is some level of a Comp Sci Background for S&T?

Hey all,

With the financial landscape turning more and more toward algorithms, machine learning, AI, etc., I'm wondering what level of computer science people think is necessary to get into and ultimately perform well within S&T. I recently spoke with a programmer at a BB who told me that Python (not just Excel) is basically a must for people interested in trading. So I'm interested in general thoughts on the matter.

Thanks!

Knowing at least one programming language is a must. Most of the traders I work with have some combination of math/statistics/quant finance+IT background. In order to perform at a top level I think you would need a degree in CS combined with finance electives or top it with a Msc in Finance (this is more common in Europe where I work).

I don't know... Yeah. Almost definitely yes.
