How much travel and relocation is required of physical commodity traders

Was wondering how extensive travel would be for a junior physical commodity trader at a supermajor or at a house such as Vitol, Glencore, Trafi.

Also, what are the chances of being relocated for an oversees assignment.

For myself I travel a fair bit, just got back from 3 weeks of overseas travel, however for my junior trader it depends on the product as monty mentioned above, and depends on your boss.

For instance for my travel last week I got my junior to join me as I wanted him to experience how I interacted with buyers, and got him to visit some plants to understand flow of the supply chain. It is really dependent on your boss, and the value they think it will add by having you travel. What we classify at my shop as a junior trader is someone who can assist the trading team with admin duties, contracts, analytical studies, and support functions. It is less interaction with buyers and sellers, but when it is, it's usually mentored and supervised until I feel he is competent enough to deal on his own.

Plus this will also depend on the individual and their level of understanding too. I know a jnr trader at Trafi who has the freedom to travel around and work around his own book. Depends on the situation, boss, and the opportunity given.
