how to better position myself for internships

Hey guys,

I'm currently a sophomore at NYU Stern, majoring in finance. I applied to hundreds of places for internships and only got offers for unpaid positions or minimally paid positions at sketchy firms. My GPA is a 3.3 and will probably go up a little more after I finish this semester. I know my GPA is not spectacular, but its not bad for a white guy in Stern.

To my understanding its not imperative to lock in an internship sophomore year, which is why I am wondering if there is anything I can do better position myself for next year's recruiting or if its too late in the game right now to get an internship for this summer.

My resume has been critiqued several times by professionals in the finance industry, so i don't think that is the problem. I don't have any previous work experience in the financial industry, I was just a salesman at a golf store every summer for the past 3 years.
