How to go about university accounting/finance career event?

Hi guys! I just recently found out that at my college in September there's an event going on where several accounting and finance firms will be coming for students to meet for information and potential internships or jobs. I'm only a sophomore so I know my options are somewhat limited due to employers mainly wanting juniors and seniors, however looking through some of the firms that are coming websites, I saw some have opportunities for sophomores as well, like Deloitte. That all being said, since I've never gone to an event like this (networking, recruiting, etc.), what is some advice or tips I could use to help promote myself and/or my strengths and knowledge? A little background information: Will be a sophomore this coming fall, no accounting/finance work experience, 3.8 gpa, double major in accounting and finance, honor society, and dean's list both semesters of my freshman yet.

I appreciate the responses! Thank you!!

Research the firms and the applicable positions beforehand. Be able to talk about why you fit the job description, and explain why they should pick you over someone who might has relevant coursework in experience. Know the firms and what they do. The worst thing you can do is approach a representative from an Asset Management company and talk about your love for auditing (is there such a thing?). An exaggeration, but you get the picture.

Have copies of your resume ready. Figure out whether this is a business formal or casual event. Be ready to give a short pitch about why you're interested in finance/accounting. Doesn't need to be long, maybe 30 seconds or so. Give a firm handshake. Make eye contact. First impressions are important. Sell yourself as someone who's eager to learn and willing to be coached. Come ready with questions, either about the firm, the position, or asking them about their background and how they like their job.

Make sure to collect contact info. These events are meaningless if you don't follow up.
