How to make the most of the rest of my summer? Semi-target, no finance related internships, goal of SA IB.

I am currently a junior undergraduate studying finance and economics at a semi-target university. I have had two previous internships in the renewable energy industry, unrelated to finance. I do not have an internship this summer (I'm working two part-time jobs over the summer in my home town).

I've begun networking in preparation for recruiting and it was suggested during an informational meeting with an analyst at a (BB) firm that I try to find something finance related to do for the remaining 2 months or so I have left of my summer.

However, I get the feeling that pursuing even an unpaid internship at this point in the summer will be a fruitless endeavor. My plan at the moment is to start cold calling boutique firms in my area to see if they're willing to take me on as an unpaid intern.

Is this my best shot at having something finance related on my resume or are there other types of opportunities I should seek out apart from internships? Should I even try to get something finance related on my resume this summer or should I be focusing my efforts on recruiting for SA IB in the fall/winter?
