How to network for junior summer while doing a sophomore internship?
I'm a rising junior in a major city but am doing an internship 5 days a week, so I can't network with bankers during the workday. I've left early once or twice but that's not something I can do anymore. Is it okay to email bankers asking to meet bankers after 5:30 pm or on the weekends? Or is that weird?
If I don't meet anyone during the summer, I feel like I'm wasting the fact that I'm in a major city. Also, for reasons specific to my internship, I can't meet people during lunch either.

I am in the same boat as you. Good thing is we have summer Fridays so I usually schedule my coffee chats with them Friday afternoon and most are usually free at that time. You have to work around their schedule most of the time. If not there are always "Doctors" or "Dentist's" appointment that you have to go. Hopefully that helps.
I don't have any additional free time on Fridays.
Also, the problem is that I am not from the area. So why would I be scheduling doctors/dentist appointments when I don't know anyone here instead of back home or at my college. I think it would look very suspicious.
You gotta be creative with your excuses. I told my manager once that I have a doctor's appointment or have a family emergency or something along those lines. That's the only way you can get out of there for a while. Are you in NYC? I travel 3 hours to make these coffee chats including juggling with my internship. If meeting is off the table, then phone call is your best bet Ig.
.
Do you need to make an excuse? It’s an internship, they know that you’re going to leave at the end of the summer anyway. Just tell your supervisor that you’re enjoying the work here but want to take advantage of your time in (city) to make sure you’re understanding all the options available to you. As long as you get your work done on time they shouldn’t care (and may even open up their rolodex)
They understand that I'm recruiting for other internships and it would be fine if I had to leave work early for an interview. However, I don't think they would be happy with me missing work to drive downtown and grab a coffee with a random guy.
My work is all long-term projects that I realistically won't be able to finish all of them by the end of my internship. I guess I could come in an hour early and leave an hour early to make a late afternoon chat.
Yea do that. I spend 4 hours extra at home to make up for work I missed. It's tough but it'll pay off in long term hopefully
I'm surprised you can make up for work at home. Everything I do is on firm computers and systems or paperwork, so I wouldn't be allowed to do any of it at home.
