hey guys, so I have been speaking to several alums either over the phone or through email for a while. I know they are pretty busy but I think I face to face will really show how committed I am. The only problem is how can I go about asking this question? Should I just bring it up? I dont live in the city but it is not hard for me to get there. Since they are pretty busy how would you go from email/phone convos with alum to face to face without being annoying if they are pretty busy people.

Plan a trip, send an email saying you'll be in their town on x date. Ask them to grab a cup of coffee.
Not that hard.
They are busy. Really busy. They don't want to sit down and talk to you for 30 min unless they 1) aren't busy or 2) have some strong connection to you beyond having attended the same school, and want to help. The threshold for asking them to talk on the phone or meet in person is entirely different. You need to be thoughtful about not making this seem like a big ask.
Here's a suggestion for how to approach this: Let them know you will be in the city on a specific date, and were wondering if you might stop by for 10 min to say hi. Let him/her know that you know they are extremely busy and don't want to take up much of their time, but you are about to head into interview season/have an important interview/make some important decisions about internships or experiences that will position you well for next year... and wanted to bounce those ideas off of them/get their perspective on how you are positioning yourself...
A little flattery always helps, and if you make it clear that you only plan to be there for a few minutes, they'll likely say yes if they were impressed by you in the phone conversations. If you're lucky and they meet with you, you can probably stretch the 10 min a bit longer. Don't overstay your welcome.
If your meeting seems to go well, at the end ask if there's an analyst he/she wouldn't mind introducing you to that you could follow-up with. You might get to talk to that analyst right then, but even if you can't, that's another person you can follow-up with who can help get you ready for interviews.

And just curious, if you were making one trip to meet somebody at a certain bank, who is it better to meet with, VP, associate or analyst?
