I am confused about IU Kelley

I feel like there is so much misinformation about whether Kelley is a decent school or not. A lot of rankings have it as top 10-15, so why are people so against it. I know that it is a lot less selective to get into, but I assumed that those stats were because there are nearly 2000 students per class. With a population of 4 times other programs, there’s obviously going to be more lower level students, but does that mean that the program doesn’t provide a similar level of education. For it to have a high ranking it’s got to have good staff, job placement etc, and I’m sure there’s plenty of top students who could go to much better schools but are considering kelley for the price. Can someone explain any of this to me?

This is the exact kind of thing I’m talking about. That comment is rude and unnecessary. I am asking a legitimate question so please only answer if you are not trolling this site. For your information, I was also accepted into UC Berkeley, but I am strongly considering Kelley for the cheaper price tag.

You're autistic.

I don’t know what you’re problem is, I’m assuming either you’re upset you’ve been rejected everywhere or you’re a snob who thinks their school is superior. This thread is not a comparison between Berkeley and IU, but I am trying to make a decision about my college career. Please only respond to this thread if you can provide information about IU ranking as I asked for in the initial question. Thank you.

The issue isn’t with Kelley but with kids who ask “Vanderbilt or IU Kelley??”, “NYU Stern or IU Kelley??”, “Georgetown or IU Kelley”. They consistently get admitted into Target schools but ask if IU is better. These are actual threads I have seen. Kelley is a good school, with good placement, but those target schools will always have better placement.

I think those questions are pretty obvious, but my guess is people asking that are weighing other factors as well (cost).

Is it more reasonable to compare Kelley’s business honors program to semitargets such as UNC, UVA, georgetown. I know there’s only around 100 or so students in each class so it’s a more comparable size. Would this pathway be at all viable to end up in top consulting firms?

No. Kelley honors is not comparable to those programs. As someone with multiple friends in Kelley Honors/Hutton Honors/Kelley ACE, all of those programs are meaningless when it comes to recruiting. The only meaningful program at Kelley is the IBW which as multiple recent threads have stated, has not placed as well recently as it used to. IU is a great school with a great atmosphere but if you want to go into consulting or IB, it is is far better to go to a target school than Kelley.

Okay I guess that’s good to know. Would you mind telling me why kelley honors doesn’t help with recruiting (are there any stats or anything that you’re going off of). Usually honors programs show a higher level of achievement so I don’t quite understand how this wouldn’t help get a higher level job.

Also I’m most likely not going to do investment banking, so I probably won’t do IBW. I was considering the consulting workshop. Does this program also help with recruitment? How does it compare to IBW?

Prestige matters so much. HR scans your resume first and they don’t know power rankings of every finance or business program. An ivy league art major(nothing against art majors, just thought of something non-business or stem) would get more looks than a state school student with a finance major. People care more about prestige of the university than quality of education so keep that in mind when deciding which university to attend.
