I need more ways to waste time
Alright guys, I need some help here. The markets are slowing deals are stretching out and my current methods can only waste so much of each day.
Currently, I use the following methods to keep from boredom:
-Read the news (including fark, drudge, cnn, nytimes, bloomberg, wsj)
-Play on WSO
-Read webcomics
-Check my various email accounts
-Read other types of news (tech news, gaming news)
-Celebrity crap (wwtdd and perezhilton)
-Read ebooks
-Call family members
-Occasionally do work that isn't urgent
-Goto the gym
So, what do you guys think, is there anything else that I could be doing to keep from being bored. The only things that I can think of, but can't do since my screen is very visible are:
-3d games
-Porn
if your firm doesn't block it, gchat is a great way to waste time.
Watch "Greek" or "Reaper"

Hone your rock-paper-scissors skills in hopes of making it to the RPS World Series in Vegas. My friend actually did this, so it is entirely possible.
Learn sign-language
Study for the CFA so you have another credential to help you get a new job when you get laid off
Hilarious. Great idea though.
Get in training for the Pain Olympics
Gchat - Already do it TVShows - Out like porn due to monitor visibility RPS - Creative, I like it Sign-Language - Creative, not really interested, but creative nonetheless CFA - Completely and utterly useless in the investment banking/PE field. I might as well go get my CPA and gouge my eyes out working at an accounting firm to get accredited Pain Olympics - Wow, I hadn't heard of that, but wow
Keep them coming
How do you know if CFA is 'completely and utterly useless in IB/PE field'? Have you sat it and realised so?
If it's not CFA, what is??
I think my ability to waste time (I'm currently 'studying' for my last ever uni exam) is so good that you should retain me as a consultant.
I'll even turn up ridiculously late for any meetings we have and just generally be really, really inefficient...thereby wasting even more of your time and upping my bonus...hopefully ;)
Get language CDs and learn another language.
Either you sling crack rock or you got a wicked jump shot
some other good websites
engadget, espn, gizmodo, cnet, bodybuilding.com online chess/online poker--may not be doable due to visibility buy shit- ebay, Amazon, slickdeals.net,etc. ipod/pandora helps cure boredom as well
i am a fan of max dirt bike
enough said
if no-one else is around, you should totally play the guitar hero rip-off where you can hold your keyboard like a guitar...classic
cold call PE shops and pitch them potential LBO targets, drum up your own deals
put those BSDs in their place
Work on lyrics for your indie-acoustic project

And I'll give you a cut of the revenue. As a highly-regarded industry expert, your contributions will be highly valued. :)
Note: I am only half-kidding here. If you do want to contribute we can work out a revenue sharing deal (more likely on some additions that will be ready in late summer).
BLOODY FUN AND ADDICTIVE

this will keep you at it for hours. I cant finish level 6 (wave 60 is what kills me). have fun.
Can't...stop....playing..... :)
bring some porn and just go masturbate in the bathroom
great suggestion
Ummm, so I get home tonight from the bars, pretty drunk, and of course I stumble across this thread and see the Alien tower game Mez posted. Long story short, an hour and a half later, almost sober now, I am on level 4 and kicking ass...
I think this game can cure your boredom. It would for me
Not gonna lie, Im busy as shit and I will still put in a good hour of stalking....
better living through design or ikeahack are interesting. also most ppl forget abt VF or RS but their cover stories are routinely great.
www.timezone.com if you want to learn about watches.
If you're at a good IB, then you'll have good exit opps. If you get your CFA, it will be useful at a hedge fund, and even if it's not as applicable on the buyside, people will still give you respect.
That picture is so perfect. Ive made some of the strangest contraptions while bored at work. Last week I threaded a plastic coffee stirrer on a T-pin. I also make these mouse-trap like contraptions out of the extra large Binder clips and a large paper clip, when engaged, toss it on someones desk a few cubes over and it snaps up like 4 ft in the air... more entertaining than learning sign language.
I can't get past level 5. I spend so much time upgrading, and building a single winding path and I still can't hold the aliens off. Game over man, game over!

ANY SUGGESTIONS!!!????
"wu tang clan ain't nuthin' to f*ck with!"
Mission 6 is impossible.
Had no trouble getting to 6. Now that i'm on 6, i can't seem to get past stage 55ish. I mean, talk about nasty.
I just discovered you can upgrade turrets. This is great!
mission 6 wave 46.
I can't even get past level three. It's been far too long since I was a good gamer...
seriously, i've lost my touch. Any help on level 3 would be appreciated. What's your strategy? Do you upgrade a lot? What towers do you use?
the key is to make the path to the other side the longest for both lines.use the dcm to take car of the flying ones
nevermind. i got it.
I F'ing hate the blob aliens that turn into other aliens after you kill them! Sometimes when they split they squeeze past your guns... Im still on level 5
Do you ever feel that work is kind of like the unrelenting aliens? It just keeps coming with no end in sight and you have to make windy path just to get to your desk chair because of all the work?
stuck on five. I'm solid until about wave 48.
Seriously, whoever posted that just ruined all productivity I had going on this week. I was traveling, so in a hotel room, without a mouse cursing my laptop for not moving accurately or fast enough.
I only got to wave 30 or so on level 6.
Lol GameTheory. Sorry :P.
The trick to that game is to make a winding and alternating path. At level 6, the key turrets you need are the DCAs (the ones that only attack helicopters) since the helicopters are the hardest to kill in the later waves. BTW I just figured this out after playing for the Nth time: YOU CAN SELL TURRETS. There is a "sell" button above the "upgrade" button.
This man is a genius for using this tactic:
holy fuck that's a great idea.
i got to wave 71 and died :( I think I read somewhere that it's actually impossible to win considering the rate at which the flying things' health increases, and the amount of money you earn...I'll try to find and post a link that has somebody talking about how Rice students calculated the game can only be won if the level 100 flying things were slowed 15-20%

Thanks to that youtube post, I was able to make it to wave 51 level 6, but I essentially lost the game many waves before wave 51.
Video no longer available. The barrage in level 35 kills me every time. I had all but one health bar and level 35 demolished me.
I check clicked the link and it works. Or you can go to youtube and search for this "Xeno Tactic -Expert Mission 6 - (Level 100-V3)"
Are you still playing with your laptop?
Mez, great post, but I wonder how many cumulative hours have been spent by all WSO monkeys playing this game since your post. Do you think you have indirectly led to anyone getting fired because they were either 1) caught playing the game or 2) let their productivity slack so they got canned?
