I Want to Start My Own PE Fund in 15 Years...

Need help planning my ultimate career goal to make this outlandish dream turn into a possibility (and maybe, a reality). Background: Semi-target, high GPA. Incoming mid-tier BB Analyst in a strong group.

  1. How important is getting an MBA if you want to start your own PE fund? Would anything outside of M7 be advantageous or just not worth the price tag? Would I be a strong applicant given my background, assuming I land a decent PE gig?

  2. I will be looking to exit to PE after 2 years of banking. I have a preference for MM/UMM funds. Would MF give me the best shot for success to start my own fund? I'm thinking it would help with network, brand, etc. However, I wonder if a MM fund would be more beneficial experience in terms of industry and market knowledge.
