I Was a Cool Guy with Jumping Rope Until I Got Humbled By A Young Client

I like jumping rope for cardio and I thought I was doing well by getting up over 100 per set with a total of about 800 to1000. Then I happened to be talking about exercise with a young female client of mine.  She told me that she does 1000 in a set as a warm up.  I need to step up my game!

It is not going to happen right away but may be I can get closer to 1000 over time (a long time).  I thought I was so cool by not being able to 2 jumps about 1 year ago and then being able to do over 100 without stopping or the form going to shit.  I guess I am still in the minors with jumping rope, haha

“Mike Jones - Back then” is 160BPM. So in a minute you hit 160 jumps if you’re on beat. I can hold that for a few minutes. Hitting 1000 would only take 6 min 15 seconds.

Fastest song I can hold is probably around 190BPM such as “T.I. No Mediocre,” but just use that speed for speed drills.

I have a Rage R2 Speedrope:

Some other favorites:

Back in Black (AC/DC) - 188BPM

Wipe me Down (lil Boozie) - 165BPM

Still Fly (Big Tymers) - 178BPM

Say I Yi Yi (Ying Yang Twins) - 190BPM

Midwest Swing (St. Lunatics) - 190BPM

Dani California (RHCP) - 192BPM

What is the difference between a speed rope and a cheap rope that you can buy on Amazon for $5?.  I realize that the speed rope does not cost much more how does it change your routine?  Do you let the rope hit the floor while jumping?  Lately my rope has been hitting the floor less frequently and sometimes hardly at all.

Having the proper length is important. It usually barely hits the ground when I jump. I guess it’s personal preference.
