If I don't feel that I can get into a target school then which colleges should I apply to
So far I'm applying to NYU and Penn State. Penn state's Nittany lion fund seems really great and people are getting jobs straight out of there. Any other schools that you guys would suggest so I can get a robust 10+ list going?
I'm down for anything but closest to NYC is best for multiple reasons (born, raised, and am currently in Brooklyn to name one).
I've met some Nittany Lions fund people and they were impressive (ie sophomores doing GS IB). Keep in mind the fund (based on what they told me) is no walk in the park and is extremely difficult to get into.
As long as admission to the fund is dependent on college GPA and not high school GPA/SAT scores, I'll be good.
I don't know what it's based on - you'll have to look into that. I am sure it's based on a lot more than just GPA; I was told the interview process is more rigorous than ib interviews, and the people I met clearly knew their shit.
What about Syracuse if you want to be in the NY area and have some finance exposure to a student fund? They have the Orange Value Fund and a few people from Syracuse definitely make it to great jobs on Wall St
Wisconsin, UIUC, and Minnesota all place pretty well if you don't mind the Midwest. Top kids from those 3 can get spots in NYC too if they hit the networking hard.
Optimal conditions would be nearest to NYC but I'll do whatever it takes.
And thanks for the info, probably going to add all of them to my list! Do they have any programs similar to the Nittany lion fund or anything that makes them special?
Can't speak for all of them, but I know Wisconsin has the IBC (Investment Banking Club) and IU Kelley, which I forgot to mention, has the Investment Banking Workshop. Plus Big 10 athletics and parties will always give you great stories to tell.
Villanova
Or is that considered a target? If NYU is non-target I would think Villanova gets to be in that category too even though they are both good schools with great placement.
Michigan and USC are also highly ranked and I always meet people these schools at superdays. Williams as well
Googles USC See's acceptance rate closes tab
