Internal Mobility - Blackstone

Does anyone know about internal mobility at Blackstone? I am interested in learning about the feasibility of moving from a group like the Strategic Partners (Secondaries) / Infrastructure to PE or Real Estate?

Its tough and uncommon. Several of my classmates who went to baam or strategic partners have tried, and some even went in planning to try to switch groups because they liked the bx name, and were not able to. At least to PE/REPE. If youre in PE its probably pretty easy to switch groups though, but not sure why you would.
This is also why people should apply directly to the role theyre actually interested in.

What happens if you are in BREDS (RE Debt team), but also want to try acquisitions or asset management in the REPE division? Whats the mobility between teams in the REPE division?

I dont work there so i wouldnt know too much. But from my classmates who went there, I havent really seen internal mobility. Usually they put you into AM or Acq for REPE. Ofc, most want acq, so it can be tough to get

Also does not generally happen. I have seen no cases. Certainly, some groups are more in-demand than others so internal mobility would likely create staffing and retention problems.

Not for Blackstone, but I work for a firm that is historically thought of as easier to move and it was a rather risky process.

Remember when you are looking to move, you are effectively telling your manager you don't want to do your current role so you need some sort of fallback option not at Blackstone. For a firm that doesn't really encourage moves you could basically get axed when you bring it up.

I'd think if you did try this, you would do it after you got an MBA acceptance and if successful transferring skip or delay the MBA.
