Internal Mobility - Blackstone

Does anyone know about internal mobility at Blackstone? I am interested in learning about the feasibility of moving from a group like the Strategic Partners (Secondaries) / Infrastructure to PE or Real Estate?

What happens if you are in BREDS (RE Debt team), but also want to try acquisitions or asset management in the REPE division? Whats the mobility between teams in the REPE division?

Why would BCP/BREP take you? The skillsets are different.

Not for Blackstone, but I work for a firm that is historically thought of as easier to move and it was a rather risky process.

Remember when you are looking to move, you are effectively telling your manager you don't want to do your current role so you need some sort of fallback option not at Blackstone. For a firm that doesn't really encourage moves you could basically get axed when you bring it up.

I'd think if you did try this, you would do it after you got an MBA acceptance and if successful transferring skip or delay the MBA.

Has anyone ever switched from BX Tactical Opportunities to the PE group?

Not at BX myself but have a couple of friends who did various analyst programs at BX and one tried to leave Strategic Partners (the secondaries team) and it was a very poor reception. Boss basically scolded him for not being grateful for the opportunity they gave him to begin with, and reiterated how he would get worked to death in the private equity team / the secondaries skillset wouldn't set him up for other investing roles (think they only work with LP stakes?). I've never seen anyone move into corporate PE out of other teams, looks like they only take out of banking programs / occasionally other PE firms.

Hasn't BX energy shifted entirely to renewables/industrials focus and effectively cut o&g exposure? If that is the case, is that still a good group to be a part of or not in ur opinion?
