International business Texan in NYC
Hello and greetings,
I am a 2012 December international business graduate from Texas Tech University. I recently moved up to the NYC area about a year ago. I have spent most of my time working full-time (6-7) days a week at an upscale restaurant, and now a high-end jewelry store in the city. I have made some connections via alumni or friends that work in BB banks and I they have been referring me to positions within their company, unfortunately I have had no luck and have not landed a finance interview.
This year I decided I will exhaust my abilities and resources and fully pursue a career in finance in NYC area. Whatever happens I will look back and know I gave it my best. My intention is to focus on boutique banks with a regional focus in Latin america or BB banks within their LATAM regional coverage group. I think this will best match my experience, Latin american studies(social, economical, political) focus in International business. My international business coursework also included international finance among others and also study abroad in spain. I also am fully bilingual in Spanish.
I have decided that due to my experience that networking will be key to my success. Today, at a friends kids birthday party I overhead someone chatting about finance and decided to introduce myself later on. Turns out he works for a major hedge fund and offered to give me his card after a short convo. I believe this is crucial, introducing myself to strangers without expectations in order to grow my network and meet other interesting people in the field.
I want to work in finance because of the opportunities to expound upon my studies and experience in a well respected professional field. I think a great opportunity for me would merge my natural person-ability and sales background with analytic/problem solving component. Thanks for reading this and getting to know me. Feel free to reach out or offer suggestions to help with me job search.
