Internship Offers: William Blair, Arma Partners, Gleacher Shacklock
Hi all,
I would really appreciate any insight on making a decision to go with either William Blair, Arma Partners or Gleacher Shacklock for the Summer 2017. All of the offers are in London.
In general, I am looking to find the optimal combination of the usual suspects: which firm would have the best deal flow, compensation, prestige and MM PE exit opps (in no particular order).
I have a solid understanding of the individual firms through interviews and such, but found it very hard to get a comparative understanding of which firm actually is the better choice for starting out a career. All seems pretty good with different pros/cons. Almost no information on Gleacher Shacklock out there.
Currently, just based on my impression William Blair may come slightly ahead of the two others, with Gleacher and Arma Partners having an equal standing??
Again, I would be really grateful for your contribution.
Thanks :-)
I would pick Arma Partners, strong tech boutique. I haven't seen people moving to PE from there but I have seen people moving to BB and then PE.
Thanks Masters - much appreciated. Would it be difficult to move from Arma to BB - and when/how should one go about that in terms of timing.
It would not be difficult, specially in tech. You should start looking 6 months after starting.
Gleacher Shacklock for me hands down. William Blair does not have that strong a presence in Europe. Arma is a tech boutique, strong in that sector. But Gleacher does well in M&A and Restructuring. 1 guy in recent year got into Apollo. Respected firm in the UK.
Thank you MrK25. I appreciate your insight to Gleacher. Is the firm generally well-known among PE firms in the UK?
Arma is a sweatshop like no other - well known fact in the City
Interested in this as well - @OP have you decided yet?
Have to make a decision by Tuesday. Thanks for some great inputs, but it seems as if there is no clear consensus. However, it seems that people agree that either Arma Partners or Gleacher Shacklock would be better than William Blair. I initially thought its global upper MM brand would be the safe way to go. Does anyone have insight to the position of William Blair relative to the others?
Interested too - OP where did you choose? Well done on the offers!
Would personally go for Arma Partners if you're looking for PE in UK/Europe- sweatshop but partners push analysts for PE placement (BB culture)
Partners don't do that... heard the culture was really bad
Is this from your own xp or what?

Genuinely curious to learn more about PE placement stats of Arma. The name is quite well-known in London but I haven't had much exposure to people from the firm.

Would definitely go for William Blair, very solid deal flow and excellent relationships with PE-firms
