Interview Attire Question

Had a first round at this fund and everyone I met was wearing jeans. I obviously wore a suit.

I'm going back for second rounds, I was going to wear a suit without a tie. What do you guys think? Given everyone was very casual I obviously don't want to dress down too much, is it ok to not wear the tie?

if you don't get hire because you aren't wearing a suit I understand that...but honestly unless you are given instructions not getting a job because you are overdressed is pretty fucking pretentious to say the least. doesn't sound like a great place to work if that's the case...granted I am cool with wearing jeans at work if that's accepted...but not hiring someone cause they wore a suit is dumb

i would wear the suit and tie for sure. it can never hurt

Look you always wear a suit the first time. If you say everyone was wearing jeans, email a contact at the firm and ask if they would like you to come dressed in business casual. Every firm has a different culture and a successful/intelligent interview candidate needs to be able to adapt. If you have a very laid back interviewer in an interview, you are not going to lecture them on financial institutions in Pre-20th century America, you are going to talk about sports or current events......the same concept applies to interviewing at this firm.

"Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."

I agree with breakinginnew, regarding "unless you are given instructions". A couple of years ago I was interviewing for a hedge fund position and I got an email I received after the phone screen saying: "A suit and a tie won't impress us", and I showed up wearing a blazer and khakis - no tie.

Stick with the suit and tie unless you are told otherwise - have you checked with HR about dress code for interviews? Generally speaking, wearing a suit and a tie shows respect for the interviewer(s) and the position.

Good luck to you!
