The issue with your question stems from the fact that an investment analyst is more of a category that has many careers within it, while an investment banker is a specific career. An investment banker works in the IBD (Investment Banking Division). Now there are different investment bankers, there are products and coverage groups. So some products include M&A bankers that advise clients on M&A transactions, then there are ECM bankers that help with capital raising such as ATM facilities or Follow-On offerings, or IPOs (Initial Public Offerings). There are also other groups such as Debt Capital Markets, Leveraged Finance, and Restructuring.

Now on the coverage side, you can work on all of these for a specific industry. So if you were on the Healthcare Coverage Group you would do M&A, ECM etc. for Healthcare companies. Sometimes they are broken down even more into "Healthcare Services, Biotech, Med Devices etc.).

Now going back to the bucket of an investment analyst. It's hard to explain since you could argue investment bankers are investment analysts, but when most people refer to investment analysts they think of financial analysts at corporations. They can do internal finance operations, accounting work, compliance, etc. Now there are M&A at these corporations but it's labeled as corporate development. Here is a better explanation: https://corporatefinanceinstitute.com/resources/questions/analyst/finan…

Also don't use your real name and photo on here. Change it lol.
