Investment Banking to Sales and Trading?
Hello,
I'm an incoming IB analyst for a BB and will start next summer. In addition to potentially exiting into PE after 2-3 years, I've slowly gotten more and more interested in an exit to S&T. I'm wondering if you've ever heard of anyone really making such a switch. If so, how did they end up? Did they have any challenges? What do you think would be the biggest obstacle to overcome coming from IB? How difficult would it be to make the transition both in being able to lateral and skills I'd need to pick up? Would I experience a large cut in compensation? From your experience or what you can tell, how much more exciting is S&T compared to IB? Specifically, I'd like to transition to Goldman Sachs S&T - I think it's good to put that out there so I can get more specific advice.
Obviously, IB and S&T are two very different worlds - particularly the latter being known as much more exciting. I'm taking a class in financial derivatives this semester and it's really piqued my interest in trading.
Thanks in advance for the advice,
BorkLesnar
