Is it appropriate to ask SVP at current job to put in a good word externally at company he used to work for?

For the past year, I have been interviewing outside of my current company because I am not fulfilled or paid to my full potential. I finally landed a superday with a top IB. It went well and I am waiting on a response.

There is an SVP at my current company that used to work for this IB. At company outings, he would constantly tell us to leave the company after 2 years because of the potential outside. This motivated me, especially knowing what my friends were making at the same job. Do you think it is appropriate to tell the SVP at my current company about the superday? I wonder if he would put in a good word for me, especially because I took his advice and landed a superday at the firm he used to work for. Thoughts? My other options are to wait it out and hope for the best or connect with an ex because he also worked at this firm in the past. I don't know if I can trust the ex to put in the good word but I can trust the SVP.
