I am moving to Boston next month for my Master degree, it's going to be my first time in the US and I want to cut corners. This is a large room in a 5 room and 1 bathroom house located in Lower Roxbury. The rent in only $600/month and utilities less than $100. The exact location is 133 Eustis street Boston MA. However, I read different opinions on internet, I heard that it's not safe and there is a lot of gang activity. I don't care to be in a poor neighborhood, what I don't want is to always look over my shoulders.
Advantages:
- Very close to my campus (1.1 miles)
- Large room
- Very cheap (I save around $200/month)

5 rooms and 1 bathroom?? That sounds like it will be an issue.
The quick answer that you're looking for is: Yes, it really is dangerous. Don't get me wrong, there aren't daily shootings, but you don't want to be walking around alone and you certainly don't want to own any valuable property. Robbery is common, there are multiple stabbings per month, and the place is rampant with drug addicts. The price doesn't justify the lack of peace of mind IMO.

To offer up a few inexpensive (but safe) alternatives: Look into Allston and Southie. Allston is stocked with college kids and apartment quality isn't incredible, but rent is inexpensive and it's safe. Southie has large houses typically with 3-5 rooms, so rent will be pretty inexpensive on a per person basis if you can find a free room on Craigslist or something. It's also filled with younger professionals and is right next to the beach which is an added bonus.

I am really stressed out about that... I have been looking for a place for almost 1 month now and it seems super expensive and super difficult to find a decent place... I am still in Paris, should I move there earlier in order to visit places? The only think I care in to be close to the campus (NEU) and spend less than $900/month with utilities
It can be dangerous but if you're street smart and know how to keep a low profile, people probably wont bother you. However, I know of some kid in banking who got really drunk in a nearby neighborhood and walked through WR yelling and flashing his rolex. It was soon forcefully removed from him, along with his wallet, phone, and pride.
You might have some luck looking in towns along the Green line on the T (Boston’s equivalent to subway).
Green line is one of the safer and nicest lines, and goes through some towns you might have some luck in if you don’t mind a 10-30 minute train ride and short walk to campus.
Towns that come to mind are longwood, Brookline, chestnut hill, Newton. Any town along the D or B train on the green line might be worth a look.
