JD/MBA post Military

Looking for some guidance. I will be entering my senior year of undergrad in the next month or so, and am hoping that I can get some advice for my career planning.

I am finishing up an engineering degree at an east coast target with a cumulative GPA of 3.6. My current plan is to attend OCS post graduation and serve for 6 to 8 years in Army infantry. Each previous generation of my family has served extensively, in every branch, and I'm the first of my next generation to reach adulthood.

Post service, I'm not sure where my career will lead. I will definitely pursue an MBA, but am weighing also pursuing a JD. I have been quite active in politics throughout my life so far, and would like to eventually look into making a post-career run at elected office.

My question is if this makes sense. I know that the MBA is the traditional tool to transition back into the private sector, but law and legal thought have always fascinated me, and I've had past experience with policy making.
