JP Morgan IB Freshman/Sophomore Program

Hi WSO, I'm new to this forum so please bear with me. I am currently a college freshman at a highly praised school where major finance firms recruit. (Firms are constantly giving presentations and hosting network sessions). Also, this past summer I did a rotational investment banking internship in a bulge bracket bank.

I am currently looking for an internship for the upcoming summer. I like IBanking and as of now, it seems like something I want to do out of college. For this summer and next summer, I want to test out specific fields within IBanking to see what I REALLY want to do. I am really interested in S&T.

Has anyone on WSO had an internship with JPM's Freshman/Sophomore program? If so, can you please describe your experience? Also, I was looking on their website and did not see a separate application for this program, so if anyone would ever be so kind to link me the page where I can apply?

I am not only applying to this program, but I do not really know where else to apply. I want to get a lot of experience out of this internship. What are other options I look into?

Thanks a lot!

You must go through your school's career center to get more information, but you're right, there's no separate application. I'm guessing you would bring it up with the JPM rep when they visit your campus. I'm in the same boat as you. WSO won't let me post the link to the JPM program page since I'm a new user.

Best of Luck!

I don't know about on JP Morgan's site, but on my school's career site there is a seperate application for the Freshmen/Sophomore program. But it seems like a diversity program:

"J.P. Morgan’s Investment Bank offers a nine-week internship opportunity in New York for exceptional students of diverse backgrounds (including but not limited to Black, Hispanic, Native American, or female students) who are currently in their freshman or sophomore year.

It does say "including but not limited to" those traditional diversity groups, but what does that really mean?

If you're talking about the Launching Leaders Scholarship/Experience then those are only for minorities.

The progam is open to Black, Hispanic and Native American freshmen and sophomores from any major who meet the GPA minimum of a 3.5 and who are interested in learning more about our Investment Bank.

There are also a few other programs for Freshman/Sophomores. I'd try researching them.

GS: Scholarship for Excellence Barclays: Wall Street Bootcamp / Generation Next Program CS: Douglas Paul Scholarship / BA Explorer Program UBS: Freshman/Sophomore Symposium DB: Demystifying IB

I understand a few might not be internships, but I think those would be beneficial especially for someone in your class standing. Also, I will apologize if the deadlines for some of these programs has passed or are no longer offered. I made this list last year.

While it is a "freshman-sophomore" program, it is geared towards sophomores. Imagine how competitive a regular IB SA spot is at JPM. Now imagine how much more competitive it is for sophomores trying to get in. Now imagine how much more competitive it is for freshman to get in. With that said, by all means apply and don't let the competition discourage you. If nothing else, going through the networking/OCR process will be an excellent learning experience for soph/junior year.

Great, thanks for the feedback. I saw some other posters say that there were definitely whites/Asians in the program, and in fact I've seen a few LinkedIn profiles from my school (all non-URM) with JPM IB sophomore year.

I imagine they reserve at least a couple of spots for freshmen, no? And 99.999% of freshmen don't apply for the program? I dunno. shrugs we'll see.
