Junior with low average at Ivey Business School (HBA) full time recruiting.
I am currently rising senior at Ivey Business School. I was very lucky to be able to land an offer at a boutique investment bank for the summer. However, my average is not great (79.3) and I want to know if it is possible to get a full time interview with any of the Canadian Investment Banks. Yes I know if I network anything is possible, but I would like to know hypothetically if I do not network will I be able to get any interviews, or is it true that any resume with sub-80 average gets thrown out regardless. I would appreciate some insights from people who have been through FT recruiting at Ivey. Thank you very much.
Another Ivey student, from my chats with the Canadian banks it sounds like your chances of getting screened through without networking is pretty much zero. Canadian banks generally want 'safe' resumes and grades are the easiest, and therefore first, point of screening. Definitely try to network your way in, but even with that, current employees may be uncomfortable vouching for you (happened to a friend of mine, they asked both me and my friend to bring our resumes during coffee chats.)
My advice is to stay at the boutique, build your experience, and try to lateral when an opportunity arrises. Networking will be key in identifying an opportunity. After 1-2 years post undergrad, work experience will have much more emphasis over grades.
Ya lateraling is obviously a back up plan, trying to work as hard as possible to secure a ft offer. But I definitely would like to work at a bigger shop full-time. Are you going into hba2 or did u graduate already?

What do you mean?

It matter at alot last yr it did. All the banks recruited in October and November. So your UWO marks are going to be what they look at, because your ivey marks don't come out until Jan.
