Lack of sleep is starting to really hit me, how do I manage?
I've been on 3.5h-4-h/night for the past two weeks and will continue to be under this schedule until Friday. The effects are starting to hit me. I feel stoned, my legs are tensed and numb, my neck feels clogged or something, I am feeling some brain fog, I am cold and my heart races from time to time.
I'm working from home.
What are little things/techniques that I can do in order to manage this schedule until Friday?
modafinil 100mg
I'm already taking stims...
which ones, there's no come down on mod
do not take drugs. CBD for the win. if it is very bad and otc stuff dont work, get a prescription
Not a fan of CBD and I'm prescribed.
why not? have you tried different products? I think it is just a natural away that doesn’t mess up your body to fix your sleep. also, think about having a sleep routine. showering at night with hot water. really helps
If you can’t ask your Associate/Director for a proper night of sleep I would schedule some delayed emails. Leave your jacket on your chair, schedule emails with 45 mins-1 hour intervals until 03:00-04:00 and be back in the office before your boss and peers the next morning.
The next best thing is when a client screws up deliveries and sends it in all types of weird formats. Instead of pushing for more material at 22:00, leave it, send a delayed email at 00:00, and deal with it the next morning.
Best technique is to close your eyes
Chug some water and go for a walk outside
Delayed emails can bite you if you're found out, be careful there.
That's fked up. Since they don't care about you, I recommend taking advantage of the Coronavirus situation. Say that you feel very sick and have to go get checked. You can then go to sleep for 5 hours, come back on and say the doctor was so busy that you weren't able to see him and you had to come back another time. You can keep on doing this, and during those visits, take a good 4-5 hour power nap instead.
Now you don't have to say exactly what I said, but if you put in email that you are feeling ill in these times, they will be scared out of their fking minds to force you to be by the computer in fear of a potential lawsuit or negative press.
Please don't rely on pills or supplements for work. I doubt everyone is working these hours on your team and even if that's the case, this method should get you some extra sleep.
I had a lot of stretches like that in IB. Some really insane ones.
When I was going through a stretch like that, I noticed it was almost always because shit didn't get moving til dinner time. Like the day would be pretty relaxed and then at 7pm its like another day has started where everyone wants to scramble and come up with shit to do for a morning deadline.
If that's the pattern you're in, find a way to catch a nap during the day. It can be as short as 30 minutes or even 15. We had a church near my bank, I'd go over there sometimes around lunch and lay down in the pews. I often saw other familiar faces there doing the same thing.
Sleep is even more important than people think. Anyone who doubts that, listen to a scientist named Matthew Walker He's a frequent guest on podcasts. Will convince you to prioritize it at all costs.
Gotta be dead periods middle of the day. Take naps.
As soon as you send a revised draft, take a nap for 30 mins. Takes at least 30 mins for the Associate to review your work so you should be fine.
Thanks everyone for the advice and sharing similar experiences. I will try out taking 15-30 minute naps throughout the day.
Make sure when you nap you put your phone across the room. I've taken more than a few midday naps where i have no memory of my alarm or turning it off in my sleep, and waking up 6 hours later, no idea where I am.
