LAUSD considers lowering requirements for graduation because the district faces "a massive dropout rate in 4 years".

I happened across this gem today in the LA Times while looking for the Mayor's yearly speech which he is supposed to have on the city today. I live in this city and haven't heard a thing about lowering the standards for graduation, yet just 2 months ago the Teachers Union blocked off one of the busiest streets in LA (right outside my office) and marched about how they are underpaid and deserve more for their work.
According to Calwatchdog.org, LAUSD spends nearly $30,000 PER student. What the flying fuck? http://www.calwatchdog.com/2010/08/20/lausd-spend…
We all know the USA lags behind most developed countries in both math and science, yet we spend by far the most money per kid. Why do we even bother with textbooks and desks, lets stop pretending that we want to educate kids in the public school system, and just admit that the public education system was created to employ rather worthless 'teachers' from cradle to the grave while they babysit the future generation of worthless 'teachers'.
bwahahahahaha
